Christopher Nolan’s next film officially has a title, release date, and lead actor! Universal Pictures and Syncopy have confirmed Cillian Murphy will star as scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in theaters July 21, 2023. The film will be based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.

Oppenheimer will begin production in early 2022, and will be filmed on a combination of IMAX 65mm and traditional 65mm film by returning cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema. Nolan will also reunite with producer Charles Roven, editor Jennifer Lame, and composer Ludwig Göransson. Emma Thomas will also produce alongside Christopher Nolan under their Syncopy banner.

Last month we rounded up all we knew about the project, but there wasn’t a whole lot information to go on in order to get a sense of what the film would shape up to be. Now we know a little bit more with Universal describing Oppenheimer as “an IMAX shot epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.”

EXCLUSIVE: Christopher Nolan is readying his next film, and Deadline hears that like Dunkirk it will focus on a seminal moment in World War II. This one is J. Robert Oppenheimer’s role in the development of the atom bomb during WWII. Here is a bombshell development: While none of Nolan’s recent movies had gone outside Warner Bros, I’m hearing that several of the major studios across town are reading the screenplay and speaking with Nolan and his reps.

This might be residue from the umbrage Nolan took when WarnerMedia declared its intention to go day-and-date with its entire 2021 movie slate, without forewarning talent, their reps or even the studio’s financing partners in the films. Nolan, among the superstar directors who are the most vociferous supporters of a good old fashioned theatrical release, was outspoken in his ire on WarnerMedia’s move. It wasn’t immediately clear whether Warner Bros is among the studios in the mix on this, but clearly it has lost pole position.

Warner Bros followed Nolan’s directives in releasing his last film, Tenet, even though the film’s grosses suffered because the pandemic was still raging, and moviegoers weren’t ready to return to theaters en masse at that point. The film still grossed $363 million, the biggest global number since the pandemic erupted outside F9, Godzilla Vs. Kong and Black Widow. Nolan and his wife/producing partner Emma Thomas did not have a formal deal at the studio, but like Clint Eastwood, they have been very loyal about making their films there. Those collaboration led to billions in box office receipts.

Details are a bit scant at the moment on casting, but I’m hearing talk that Cillian Murphy might be involved. He collaborated with Nolan on two of The Dark Knight films, Inception as well as Dunkirk, and is in the mix. The project has the sweep of Nolan’s last historical epic Dunkirk, looking at WWII from the development of the atomic bombs that ended the war with Japan. So there will clearly be many big star parts.

Deadline dropped a casting bombshell this morning in an exclusive report that Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon are joining Christopher Nolan’s increasingly impressive Oppenheimer cast. They’ll be joining Emily Blunt as well as Cillian Murphy, who will be starring as scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer. Just who exactly RDJ and Damon will be playing in the film is unknown at this time. Nolan previously worked with Damon in the 2014 sci-fi epic Interstellar.

Oppenheimer is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. son zamanlardaki filmlerde birden çok ünlü oyuncunun aynı filmde olmasını çok basit bir pazarlama stratejisi olarak görüyorum. gişe garantisini sağlamak için nerde popüler oyuncular varsa aynı filmlere toplanıyor. önceden başrol ve yardımcı birkaç oyuncu harici rollerde ( başrolün arkadaşı ve filmin antagonist karakteri ) diğer oyuncular ise bilinmeyen kişiler olurdu, şimdi ise yolda geçen alakasız biri bile neredeyse 20 yıllık oyuncu.

Interstellar sonrası baş aşağ giden bir Nolan var. O kadar zirve iş yapınca bir yerden sonra beklentiyi karşılayamıyorsun ona hak veriyorum ama bir yandan da sen Nolan'sın, eşin benzerin yok işte..

Şimdi böyle bir konu, tema seçmesinin ne anlamı var? WW2 diyenler var da alakası yok. Bas baya ucu her türlü siyasete (uluslararası) dokunacak, ister istemez ABD yalakalığı yapıp atom bombasıyla ve Japonya mevzusuyla ilgili şirin gösterilecek yerler olacak. Bir insanın bütün enerjisini alan 1 dakikalık bir video. Çekimden gördüğümüz kadarıyla gözlerde bir pişmanlık var ama bir dahi bu işin nereye varacağını bilemiyor mu? Belki de gerçekten yok edici olmak istedi neyse bunlar başka konular.

Dunkirk'e ne yazık ki ben de çok dayanamadım ve yarıda kapattım aslında o anki ruh halim de belki el vermedi bilemiyorum.
