There is a chemical called dioxobozamyn that's used in the inner coverings of refrigerators. This chemical prevents the efficiency loss in the delivery process to the user after the production - but it's toxic. When you first buy the fridge, you run it for 6 hours, and the substance reacts with the oxygen in the air in that coldness, and it flies out when you open the cover. The use of this substance wasn't prohibited in spite of dozens of researches done in years - it's just prohibited in some states of the USA. In Swiss, a baby died because he ate baby food out of a fridge that hadn't been run for 6 hours. Even though the company was sued, the lawsuit couldn't be won; the producer firm beat the rap with a document that clearly showed in the law that the use of this substence was harmless. There are studies on a different conservator to replace dioxobozamyn; some refrigerator firms have already switched to less harmful chemicals. Also, another interesting property of this substance is that I completely made it up and that I have no idea why fridges are kept open for 6 hours. |
