    1) What is Philosophy? Why should we study philosophy? Give at least two reasons
    -Philosophy is an academic discipline that exercises reason and logic in an attempt to understand reality and answer fundamental questions about knowledge, life, morality and human nature.
    -We should study philosophy to find answers for our curiosity, to develop our personality and to widen the way we look to life.

    2) How would you distinguish a valid argument from an invalid argument? Give an example for each.
    -An argument is valid if all the premises are true so as the conclusion is true, otherwise it is an invalid argument.

    3) What is the difference between a sound and an unsound argument? Give an example for each.
    -An argument is sound if it is valid and all its premises are true, otherwise it is an unsound argument.
    -Sound:All mammals have lungs.All rabbits are mammals.Therefore, all rabbits have lungs.
    -Unsound:No mammals have lungs.No whales are mammals.Therefore, no whales have lungs.

    4) Explain the “naturalistic fallacy” and give an example of this fallacious inference.
    -When the conclusion expresses what ought to be, based only on actually what is more natural.
    -Example:Tigers eat meat, so the vegetarians must be wrong.

    5) Explain the straw-manning fallacy and give an example of this fallacious inference
    -SMF is based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while refuting an argument that was not advanced by that opponent.
    -A: Many of the universities in Turkey are not good at education. B:So what ? Should we close them all ?

    6) Explain the red herring fallacy and give an example of this fallacious inference.
    -Red herring fallacy is attempting to redirect the argument to another issue.
    -For example you are late for home and when your mom asks where were you at you talk about your math exam you had yesterday.

    7) Explain the “ad ignorantium fallacy” and give an example of this fallacious inference.
    -Ad ignoratium fallacy is to consider something as true because it has not been proved false or vice versa.
    -For example since you cannot prove that ghosts do not exist, they must exist.

    8) State the “cultural differences argument” for cultural relativism. Is it a valid argument? Why/Why not?
    -Different cultures have different moral codes.
    Therefore, there is no objective "truth" in morality. Right and wrong are only matters of opinion and opinions vary from culture to culture.
    -In my opinion it is invalid because

    9) What are the consequences of taking cultural relativism seriously according to James Rachels? Explain two consequences of cultural relativism.
    Do you think that these consequences present good reasons for not being a cultural relativist? Why/Why not?

    10) What do people from different cultures despite their apparent differences in their values usually agree on? Give two examples of moral values/facts that are common in all cultures.

    11) What can be learned from cultural relativism according to James Rachels? Do you think they are valuable lessons?

    12) What is the highest (final) good according to Aristotle? Do you agree with him on that? Why/Why not?

    13) What are virtues according to Aristotle? Are they emotions, faculties or what?

    14) What is the characteristic of virtues according to Aristotle? How can one know what is virtuous and what is not? Give examples of two virtues and explain why they are considered moral virtues in the Aristotelian framework.

    15) How can we distinguish good actions from bad actions in the Aristotelian framework? Would spending our money on luxury items be a good action according to Aristotle?

    16) How can we become good humans according to Aristotle? Do you agree with him? Why/Why not?

    17) What is the Aristotelian approach to animal rights according to Rosalind Hursthouse? What should we focus on while determining the morality of our attitude towards animals?

    18) What is the ultimate good (or good in itself) according to Kant? Why does he think that happiness, courage or power cannot be the ultimate good? Do you agree with Kant? Why/Why not?

    19) What is a will? How can we have a good will according to Kant?

    20) Explain the distinction between “hypothetical imperatives” and “categorical imperatives” and give examples for each. Which form does the moral law take according to Kant?

    21) State the first formulation of the categorical imperative in Kant. Explain how “making a false promise” conflicts with this formulation.

    22) How do we determine whether an action is morally permissible in Kant’s moral philosophy? Is committing suicide morally permissible according to Kant? Why/Why not?

    23) How do we determine whether an action is morally praise-worthy in Kant’s moral philosophy? Give an example of an action that is not only morally permissible, but also worthy of our praise in the Kantian framework.

    24) What is the ultimate good according to Mill? How does he prove his point about the ultimate good? Do you agree with him? Why/Why not?

    25) How do we determine whether an action is good or bad according to utilitarianism? Give an example of a good and a bad action in the utilitarian framework.

    26) Explain why some people think that utilitarianism is theory worthy of swine. Explain Mill’s response to this criticism. Do you think that it is a good response? Why/Why not?

    27) What are the different kinds of pleasure according to Mill? Give examples for each kind and explain why Mill thinks that one kind is more valuable than the other.
    Do you agree with Mill about his claim that one is moral valuable than the other? Why/Why not?

    Helal olsun güzel cevaplar. Aralarında yoruma dayalı cevaplarda katılmadıklarım falan da var tabii ama felsefe tarihi ile ilgili kısımlar iyi olmuş. Ben ingilizcem yetersiz kalabileceği için el atamıyorum sorulara.
