Need for Speed serisi son yıllara kadar her yıl bir oyun çıkarma politikasıyla ilerlerken bu durum Rivals ile son bulmuş ve uzun bir süre yeni oyun adına sessizlik bozulmamıştı. Arkasından 2015 yılının sonlarına doğru yeni Need for Speed önce konsol çıkışını yaptı ardından 2016 Mart itibariyle PC oyuncularıyla buluştu. Tanıtımından itibaren iyi bir etki bırakmayı başaran ve serinin hayranları tarafından sevilen yeni Need for Speed oyunu, haliyle serinin bundan sonrasında izleyeceği yol açısından da merak unsuru oldu. Eelectronic Arts ve İsveç merkezli geliştirici stüdyo Ghost Games yaptıkları son duyuruyla bu duruma açıklık getirdiler. Buna göre 2016 yılı içerisinde yeni bir Need for Speed oyunu çıkmayacak. 2015 çıkışlı Need for Speed için halen ücretsiz eklentiler ve geliştirmeler yayınlayan ve bunlar üzerinde çalışmaya devam eden ekip bir sonraki Need for Speed oyununun 2017 yılında geleceğini belirtti.(BSC) New Need for Speed Coming in 2017 "We are now building upon the foundations that have been laid with Need for Speed and delivering our next game in 2017." he Need for Speed franchise is not returning to an annualized release schedule, at least not yet. The next game in the long-running racing series will be released in 2017, developer Ghost Games announced today. In a blog post titled "Taking Stock," the EA-owned studio said it has been "humbled" by the support and volume of feedback it's received since launching Need for Speed in 2015. With this in mind, a new game will come out next year. "We are now building upon the foundations that have been laid with Need for Speed and delivering our next game in 2017," the developer said. But don't expect Ghost Games to keep quiet between now and then. "Far from it," Ghost Games said. "We'll be working with our community and there will be multiple opportunities to bring many of you into the studio in the coming months to get your feedback on where we're headed."
