The Australian Classification Board has just whacked an MA15+ rating on a mysterious new horror title from Bethesda.

The title given is Endless Summer, but one of the quirks of the Australian Classification Board is that you can submit games under dummy titles – meaning this could be anything.

The game is described as having “strong horror themes and violence” as well as mild impact language and sex and very mild impact nudity. Bethesda Softworks is listed as author – but that’s the name of Bethesda’s publishing arm, not its in-house team, Bethesda Game Studios, so it doesn’t mean it’s not a product of one of its other developers.

Naturally our first instinct is that we’re looking at Tango Gameworks’ recently revealed The Evil Within, but it does seem pretty early, since we’re not expecting the survival horror until 2014.

Other potential titles from Bethesda include whatever MachineGames, Battlecry Studios and Id Software have in the works – although we’re not expecting Doom 4 news any time soon. Heck, even Prey 2 might be on the cards at long last, although it doesn’t seem to meet the classification’s description – or perhaps Arkane Studios has somehow managed to produce another game in almost no time at all.

Naturally we fired off a furiously curious query to local Bethesda representative, but nobody was available to comment on the matter, which is precisely what we expected. Secret things are supposed to be secret, after all.

The Australian classification board has just outed what looks like a brand new video game from Bethesda, currently listed as 'Endless Summer.'

The game has been classified by the board MA15+ and described as featuring "strong horror themes and violence." Specifically, strong impact violence and themes, mild impact language and sex, very mild impact nudity and zero drug use. As Kotaku correctly notes, the name 'Endless Summer' could be a place-holder at this stage; it could be code for the recently announced The Evil Within, although that's an early classification for a game due for release in 2014.
