❌ The old account-sharing trick (primary/secondary swap)

On the original Switch, this setup worked for years:

• Each person made the other’s account primary on their device.
• You could both play games bought on each other’s accounts at the same time.
• Even online games worked — as long as you played on your own (non-primary) account.

But as of Switch firmware 20.0.0 (Apr 30, 2025), Nintendo cracked down hard:

"Only one user at a time can access a shared digital game license for online play. Simultaneous use may result in forced disconnection or error messages."
→ Even if you have the game downloaded and installed, Nintendo now checks online in real time whether someone else is using that license.

So on Switch 1 or Switch 2, this system no longer works reliably if both people are online.

❌ Virtual Game Cards don’t help remotely

Nintendo’s new Virtual Game Card system on Switch 2 was designed to replace physical cartridges, but:

• You have to "eject" the virtual game license from your console.
• Your friend can then "insert" that license on theirs.
• But only one console can have it loaded at a time, and you need to be online to do the eject/insert process.

This means you can’t both play the same game at the same time. One person must give it up completely before the other can use it.

So again, no true remote game-sharing is possible through this system either — just pass-the-license.

🤏 What about GameShare on Switch 2?

GameShare sounds promising, but:

• It's a temporary multiplayer session you initiate from your Switch 2.
• Your friend streams your game session remotely.
• You must both own a Switch 2 and use Switch Online + GameChat.
• Only a few games support this, and the guest can’t play solo—they just join your game stream.

So it’s great for:

“Hey, want to jump into Mario Party with me for a round?”

But useless for long-term solo playing like in your use case.
