How to flash NEW FIRMWARE A small guide on how to flash the firmware.



WARNING: It 'should do an "full wipe " the firmware. For in this way Livesuit will format the sd card and also inside, make a backup of what you want to keep BEFORE you flash the firmware!



1) First of all, check in the Settings / Options Developer that is active the option "USB debugging". While you are in the settings, also check which menu items allow you to set the language, because once flashed the new firmware, EVERYTHING will be back in China.



2) Identify the version in the Serial Number that you can find in the back of the tablet. Decide which firmware to download depending on the version, or the V1 or V3. Example: A0009 is VI408C1 V1 V1 (eighth and ninth character)



3) Once you download the firmware, unzip it and rename the file. Img to remove the Chinese characters.



4) Start the application and select the file Livesuit. Img



5) Turn the tablet completely (complete shutdown).



6) Push the button in the middle, in the group of three buttons, and keep it pushed



7) Connect the tablet to your PC



8) While holding the button pushed in the middle, push repeatedly for several times in quick succession the power button. This should start installing the drivers on your PC and installing the firmware. Release the button in the middle. Some windows will open on the PC, to ask if you want a "full wipe" or not. If this is your first installation of the firmware or if you want to start from scratch (and lose all previously installed app) make sure you click Yes and continue. If you want to reinstall the firmware in "no wipe" keeping all the settings and the app installed, answer No.



9) After about 3 minutes the installation should be completed .. Turn the tablet ON, Press Power for 10secs and reset the settings in the English language.

GOOGLE APPS I prepared a package to install the Google Apps, remove the bloatware and install a Chinese build.prop with various tweaks, including Nitro Lag Nullifier. The script must be run AFTER you upgrade the firmware to version 1.0 (see 'Firmware').

The script installs: - Voice Search - Googe Maps + Street View - Google Talk - GMail - Google Plus - YouTube - Synchronize bookmarks to Chrome



In the folder there are extra_apps apk to install (manually):



- Superuser & Busybox JRummy (see 'Rooting') with a script RootMe - Nova Launcher (recommended) - Google Currents - Google Books - Google Docs - Google Music 2 (recommended, much better than the player included) - Google Chrome Beta



Before running the script, make sure that: - It has the firmware 1.0 (see 'Firmware') - You have set the screen timeout to 30 min. - It is set to the Italian keyboard



After running the script, use the Market Doctor Titanium Backup to reconnect the application (and system) to the market, in order to receive any future updates.

I now have Vi40 Elite V3 with ICS 4.0.3 Firmware 1.0 and now with the new google play (market) some apps are not available, e.g. facebook and angry birds etc.



Here's what to do:

1. Backup /system/etc/permissions/*.xml files (just take a copy with ES file explorer)

2. Extract the xmlfiles.zip and copy its content in /system/etc/permissions

3. Make sure the file permission are rw-r-r (with ES file explorer, long tap then properties)

4. Go to settings->apps and tap Google Play

5. Click on Clear data

6. Reboot tablet

7. Open market and accept license

Rooting The tablet comes with factory already root/busybox installed. You do not need any kind of rooting. In this way, but 'no one is aware of what and how many applications use root permissions. Furthermore, it is not updated-BusyBox/SU. To set the proper rooting and have updated Busybox follow this guide:



1) From the market, install and open the Superuser program. Go to Settings and click on "On binary vnull on." Click on Update. Once finished, reboot the tablet.



2) From the Market to install BusyBox JRummy16 Installer and open it, the first time probably will not be able to get root permissions. Close it. Reopen again. At the request root permissions, click Allow. Install busybox to / System / Xbin. Install busybox to / System / Bin. Restart the tablet.



3) Adjust the screen timeout to 30 minutes. Run the file that you find in the package RootMe.bat OndaVi40_Tools_V1 (see 'Google Apps'). Restart the tablet.

Hi,



I have made a custom ROM for Onda Vi40 V3. It's based on Onda 4.0.3 1.0 for V3 ROM. I basically set default language to English, removed chinese apps, added some apps like ES File Explorer, ES Task manager, YouTube, Gmail, Google Map, Documents to go, Adobe PDF reader, Unrar, added changes in Permissions for Market. I took most of new apps from latest Ployer Momo11 ROM, I replaced Browser with MOMO one and it seems faster to me, I don't have so much freeze when using it.

Notes :-This is for V3 Vi40 (not V1)-Be sure to have original ROM at hand in case you need to restore original ROM.-File is bigger than original ROM because the SYSTEM file could not be compressed back after modification but this is no problem for flashing-Use LiveSuite to flash and Click Yes to Format question. This will erase everything but it's safer that way.-After flash is finished, Boot the tablet and you will see the new apps coming-up little by little. It will take a couple of minutes to have them all installed.



Thanks to Roman for all the tips in order to make a custom ROM. This is my first attempt so it might not be perfect. Feel free to comment and give suggestions so I can improve.

OVERCLOCKING Although the Onda gives tablet as clockable to 1500, in practice it rarely manages to exceed 1200. Browsing the Internet there are cases of stable clock to 1250, but are rare. However depending on your processor, you can have a stable clock between 1150 and 1250. My tablet is stable to 1150 .. over this frequency it is restarted. It 's important, before you set the clock at boot time, thoroughly test the system stability. To change the cpu frequency, you can use SetCPU Antutu CPU or Master (Free), both downloadable from the market.
